About OUEM

A wholly-owned subsidiary of the University of Oxford

OUEM is the official investment office of the University of Oxford, providing a comprehensive and wide-ranging investment service to the collegiate University.

Investment policy is determined by the University's Investment Committee and implemented by a management team of highly experienced investment professionals drawn from a variety of well-regarded institutions.

We invest across asset classes predominantly by engaging the services of external specialist investment managers. OUEM executes manager selection and portfolio construction, and is responsible for due diligence, risk management, portfolio monitoring and reporting to our investors.

History

In 2005 Sir Alan Budd, former member of the Bank of England's monetary policy committee and Provost of Queens College Oxford, led a review into the way the University's endowment was managed.

As a result of the review, in 2007 the University set up a new Investment Committee chaired by Richard Oldfield. The Committee agreed to appoint a Chief Investment Officer and an in-house team. The result is OUEM, formed in September that year. OUEM was authorised by the Financial Services Authority on 8 May 2008.

OUEM was supported at its inception by the Rhodes Trust, an educational charity, and by Michael Moritz and Harriet Heyman through their gift to Christ Church college via The Campaign for Oxford.
