Neamul Mohsin, OUem CIO, speaks to Money Maze on investing with flexibility, focus and finding the best people
In a new episode of the Money Maze Podcast, Neamul Mohsin, our Chief Investment Officer, sets out OUem’s approach to compounding long term, real returns while maintaining a stable annual distribution for our investors.
In the conversation, Neamul discusses asset allocation, how OUem selects its investment groups, how we think about venture and private equity, and the team culture.
He explains that the investment objective hasn’t changed since inception with a 5% real return target and a policy of distributing 4.25% of NAV each year on a rolling basis. “We’re trying to balance the desire for maximum distributions for investors today with the needs of future beneficiaries – who aren’t even alive yet,” he said.
Neamul also emphasises that choosing investment groups hinges on character as much as numbers. “We look for complete and utter focus, top 1% competitiveness, and true alignment, not just capital at risk but a philosophy still aiming for hall of fame results.”
Throughout the conversation, he describes the culture he is reinforcing within OUem including an insatiable curiosity with clear guardrails, candid post-mortems and the courage to exit when warning signs intensify. “Vulnerability and honesty make us better at weeding out mediocre ideas and acting sooner when signals worsen,” he said.
